Top 3 Mangas for New Readers

Spoiler Alert – The following blog post contains spoilers for three mangas – Solo Leveling, Return of the Mount Hua Sect and I’m Not That Kind of Talent.

I find myself writing this blog at 11:30 pm on a Saturday. As I promised earlier, I want to keep my 3-day streak alive and need to finish this post in 30 minutes. Basically, I am in my natural element right now. Having finished entire 20-page essays in an hour I believe I can manage this, but only if I keep this intro short. So welcome to Bookgest, here are my top 3 Manga recommendations for people who haven’t read any mangas and wanna get into this interesting form of literature.

You can read all of these for free at the AsuraScans website (This isn’t a sponsorship, they are a legit translating website for mangas and manhwas).

1 – Solo Leveling

Any new manga reader who hasn’t delved into this form of literature needs to start with solo levelling, especially if you are into gaming. Most mangas nowadays contain these game lit elements but solo levelling has a very gradual learning curve when it comes to game mechanics and how things work in the world.

The number one reason I love Solo Leveling (I have been reading it since 2021, and took a break at the start of 2022) is that it’s not too complex of a story. Especially in the beginning. Another major reason this is such a popular all-time favourite is because it depicts the journey of a very clear underdog in becoming one of the strongest people in the entire universe, including god-like creatures. He eventually becomes one of these gods and proves that nobody has their ‘potential’ locked, which I believe applies to real life as well. A definite must-read.

2 – Return of the Mount Hua Sect

The funniest manga I have ever read. Period. It contains another very often seen plot in mangas – rebirth. The main character dies and returns, but this time, to the future. Here he sees the descendants of his sect and finds their abilities disappointing. He takes it upon himself to train the new generation of his sect’s youth and provide them with resources to become one of the strongest sects again, regaining its former glory, seeing as how it declined after his death in the past.

While the plotline does seem a bit overused and common, the characters and dialogues are just out of the world, you will literally be rolling on the floor amidst reading this one. Season 2 of this series is coming soon, I think. The novel is still going and is far ahead of the manhwa.

3 – I’m Not That Kind of Talent

Another very funny manga. While the characters are pretty good and so is the setting, what I loved the most about this manga is its unique plot. I haven’t yet read a manga with a main character that has a split personality and is a weak, frail human and a brutal tyrant without even knowing. While its a relatively new manga and there are only 22 chapters out at the time of this post (25 Feb 2023), which means you can’t binge-read it, it will definitely become one of the OGs and we can say we were their when it wasn’t as popular.

These were the three mangas I would recommend to someone who wants to get into this world. As stated previously you can read it on AsuraScans (not sponsored). I have 10 minutes left before midnight so this was it for today, see you tomorrow for Day 4 of my 5-day streak. Hopefully, tomorrow’s post won’t be as hurried as this and will be something you guys actually want (?). See you tomorrow ✌️
