The Harsh Reality of Competition

The Harsh Reality of Competition

People confuse our generation with millennials mainly because of our similarities. Both generations are lazy and addicted to their phone, or that’s what everybody thinks. Look, I don’t want to turn this blog into some kind of controversial “millennial vs their parents” post, mainly because I am not even a millennial. And it’s not our mistake that we are addicted to our phones, OUR WHOLE GENERATION IS SPONSORED BY APPLE! Yes, the name of my generation is iZ. In essence, all previous generations always look negatively at their next generation and that’s why they always find faults in the subsequent generation. This has been an old war.

Nobody looks at the good things we offer, our generations have gone through many hardships, including health problems due to pollution (which happened mainly due to the previous generation, not that anyone’s counting!), our spinal cords have taken a lot of damage due to the comfortable couches and heavy bags that we are offered. Well instead of the blame game, let’s get to the point.

Heavy school bags - Daily Times

One of the biggest challenges for millennials AND iZ’s is competition. We were introduced to competitions the day we stepped in school and this led to peer pressure. And no, I am not going to ramble about the faults in the education system, essentially because the school I go to, is pretty good and according to me one of the best things that ever happened to me. But still, if you are here to see the faults in the education system, I will give you a link to Prince Ea’s youtube video in the comment’s section below, but watch it after reading this post!

Now, not that I am bragging but I have been pretty good at many things, mainly because it’s not that I am good at all those things, but because I am good at one thing, and all those things need that thing. And that thing is (drumroll please) competition…….yep you guessed it!

Fight To The Top: Is Collaboration The New Competition?

Due to this environment that I have been introduced to, I have learnt to thrive in competition, be it school studies, football (soccer for all my brothers from the USA), computers and even competitive exams (which are study exams but harder than school exams).

There is only one type of competition and that is competition. I have read many articles and books while researching for this post that says that there are two types of competition-good and bad. But believe me, it all depends on how you see it. I am sure most of you are confused about what I am saying. So, let’s just start with my story.

As I said earlier, I was exposed to competition at a very young age. It was not because of my school or teacher nor was it because of my parents. My parents never believed in such competition especially marks. It was because of the time that I was born in. All around me, there was a competition. You see, I was an introvert and quite naive about things around me, and if you have both these qualities in your personality, then believe me………..you can’t survive out there. I was an average student mainly till 2nd grade, now I know that all of you must be thinking about what happened in 2nd grade.

Well as I said earlier, I didn’t know much about competition. But after a year or so, I quickly understood that being the best at everything was quite impossible but also pretty important. So, then I started intense training, with the help of my parents (who thought it was kind of cute of me, I don’t know why but parents love it when their kids do………..pretty much anything). And after a few months, I gave a math competition called IPM. This was in 2nd. It was my first competition and it was pretty hard, but I actually won.

That’s when I learnt the most important lesson of my life winning in intense competition is the only thing that can help you in surviving in competition. I also learnt that the key to thriving in the competition is to go through competition and then win it, only that will give you confidence. After that, I have given many competitions and won quite a few actually. Wow, now that I think of it, it will look quite beautiful in my resume right alongside, I survived 2020! Jokes apart, competition is tough and depressing and will take you on quite some ups and downs but at the end of the day, it is what will prepare you (and your children, if you are a parent) for the future. The four things that you need are- hard work, smart work, confidence and lots of luck. The competition will never end. I just wanted to wish my brother who belongs to the latest generation, Gen Alpha (what a cool name!) best of luck. Because his generation needs to deal with far more pressure and competition than I ever had to. Also, luck is a very important factor and can give you quite a few opportunities, to help you to harness the power of competition, though luck without hard work is a mere chance.
