A New Genre of Books

Hey Guys! I am back with another post and another loooooong delay. What can I say? I got lost on the path of life…(yep! still with the unbelievable excuses <wink>). This post is super important for all my viewers. Do you know how I have been preaching Rick Riordan’s books since the beginning of this blog? Well, guess what, I just found the most amazing new author and also a new genre. That’s right I just discovered a new genre, well not entirely discovered because the author has already written about it, but you know what I mean.

I know you guys would be calling me crazy, but this is a big deal for me, like a really big deal. Finding a new genre that you like is a really big deal especially for bookworms. I have always been attracted to mythology, maybe because that’s what got me into reading. But reading is like an ocean and once you enter it, the chances of getting lost in it are high. Getting addicted to books is a very common phenomenon that happens to all of us sometime in our reading journeys, for some people its when you start reading, for others its when you find a book or series that you love. This new genre is called “Fantasy Gamelit Adventure”. It basically is slapping fantasy creatures and high technology together, then sprinkling a little bit of overpowered protagonist and then dumping a truckload of adventure. The two books I have read of this genre are both written by Robyn Wildeman, both of these books belong to the series – “Darkthorn Academy”.

The Darkthorn Academy is basically in the fantasy genre consisting of dwarves, dragons, elves and many more mystical beings. The protagonist of the books is Jack Vance who is a Half Dwarf ad Half magic-user. Raised by his grandfather who is a tinkerer i.e. weapon sharpener, he lived in a caravan travelling the world with his grandfather. Not knowing his father and losing his mother at a young age he sure wants to find answers about his family.

The story begins with his grandfather starting to train him in combat and fitness, then when his grandfather is dying he makes Jack promise him that he will attend Darkthorn Academy and learn to use magic just like his mother. Jack gets selected for the scholarship program at Darkthorn Academy. He learns that his mother was a warrior healer and he starts walking the same path. On the way, he finds a pet dragon who actually is as big as a bird and can’t spit fire, but he is very old and wise and can also speak but has a bit of an ego problem.

Then he and his friends pick a fight with a bully and this bully tricks him into failing an exam which means that Jack and his friends can’t continue at the academy unless they become questers which means they have to go to the dangerous Ancient Lands to find ancient artifacts and sell them to get money with which they can attend the academy. They choose becoming questers over leaving the academy and have tons of adventures while in the Ancient Lands. I am not going to spoil any adventure but believe me, all of them are awesome.
