My Favourite Productivity Apps as a Student (2020)

Being a student is not easy, students need to know how to absorb information, retain knowledge and use it practically. Being a student is not as easy as people make it seem, from the time-consuming schoolwork and competitive exams to the highly-stressing sports tournaments and nerve-racking project competitions, students need to do all of this with no excuses.

Students are multi-talented, multi-tasking…and many more words starting from multi.

All of this requires a mixture of hard-work, smart-work and motivation. I am going to write another post soon about motivation for learning, but in this one, I am going to talk about smart-work. I am going to show you that there are some tools in this amazingly-techy world of ours that can help us do all of this work, with relative ease. I am going to talk about apps, essentially my favourite apps that I use everyday for studying and learning in general. These may range from timers to note-taking apps, but I promise that all of them are very useful. Here they are:

1) Notion

Oh boy, I cannot talk enough about this one, it is basically a note-taking app, but I don’t use it for note-taking. I use it for everything except its true purpose and that’s the beauty of it. It has many templates that you can use daily for multiple things. I use it to keep a to-do list. I use it as a wishlist for all the books I want to read and the movies I want to watch. Right now, this is how it looks:

List down whatever movies or TV series you want to watch, so that it will look official and professional. This will make you feel good about yourself and not think about HOW YOU ARE WASTING YOUR LIFE!

Mybookgest

I can even arrange them as per priority. You can even use Notion for your work because it has got this kind of template gallery that includes all kinds of jobs and the templates which those jobs requires.

The best part about Notion is that it’s cross-platform, which means that I can access my to-do list from my phone and laptop both. Go ahead and download it here.

2) Trello

If you guys have been observing and analyzing every page on my blog (don’t do it it’s weird, and I will feel nervous while writing this) you may know that I love coding. I am learning quite a few programming languages (not to brag) right now. But I am already into web-development and python. So to collaborate with the other people who I was developing an e-learning site with, I used Trello. You can use it for personal use also but I feel that it is a lot better for collaborating with other people. We used this for dividing up tasks, deciding deadlines and also to keep a track of whatever we were doing on a particular day.

Collaborating with other geniuses can help you complete stuff easily and also doing it better. It can also help you be called a team person which in turn will help you get a job

Bookgest

We were 3 people so, we could use Trello for free, but if you have more than 10 members then you will have to pay to use Trello. But let me just say, it’s worth every penny. You can even track each other’s activity to see what is completed and to see who is doing their work and who is just slacking off like a lazy dude (I am looking at you who is reading this post right now, instead of working hard to achieve your goal, you are trying to find an easy way out, aren’t you?) so that you can judge your teammates. Feel free to get it here.

3) Quizlet

This one did deserve a place way above the rest of the apps, mainly because it does produce results. According to a study, 90% of students who use Quizlet, get higher marks. But it comes on the 3rd place because I have started using this recently, so feature-wise it hasn’t got too many features, but still isn’t under-featured (if under-featured is even a word). I have fallen in love with its previously created sets, which I can use without spending time in making my own. This app is used to make flashcards, if you don’t know what are flashcards, I suggest you go and read about the wonders of using flashcards by clicking here. The best part about Quizlet is that there are already sets of flashcards created by others, which you can use to study. You can also make a test based on those flashcards and play games related to it.

Using flashcards created by others help you save time so that you can go ahead and watch one extra episode of Game of Thrones

I really love this app, and I promise that you will too after using it for some time and seeing your exam results then. Go ahead and make an account here.

4) Pomodoro Timer

There are many timers out there, but the one I prefer is a Pomodora Timer, it works like a charm. What it does is it divides your work into some time intervals, for example, a 25 min work session, followed by a 5-minute short break and a 15-minute long break. Here, you will need to do the work for 25 minutes, then you will get a break of 5 minutes. After this, you will again need to do the work for 25 minutes. After 4 such cycles, you will get a 15-minute long break. All these timings can be customized, so don’t worry if you are not okay with the time sessions. There are quite some Pomodora Timers, but the one that I use is called FocusWatch, which is available only for iPhone, iWatch and iPad. So if you have an android device, you will not get it. But don’t be discouraged, because there are multiple Pomodora Timers out there and you can use any other one.

Divide stuff up, so that you feel that it is less and become successful, like me…not really…I am just a kid (don’t judge me)

Breaking up tasks and giving yourself breaks can help you not get bored while doing the hard stuff and can also make sure that you complete this stuff, because if you do this then your brain perceives it as a short work wherein if you do 2-hour work session, it will tend to thing of it as long chunks filled with boring stuff.

So, those were the 4 apps that I use to study and simply can’t live without. If you liked these apps and want more of them (because it takes very little time and effort to write posts like this as compared to book reviews), then feel free to drop a comment, because I have got many more apps in my arsenal that I cannot possibly fit in one post. If you like this type of content, please subscribe to Bookgest, and share it with your valued friends and family members.
