Will Wight’s Cradle – A Review

Disclaimer – This post may contain some minor spoilers about the book but I have tried to not include the important details that will give you the pleasure of reading it.

Hey Guys! I am back. Firstly thanks a lot for waiting patiently for this post. I know it came out a couple days later than I expected but the Cradle Series has 9 books each with 300 pages and I needed some time to complete all of them. But now that the wait is over, I promise this one’s gonna be worth your time 😃.

Let’s talk about the setting, I’m pretty sure the whole series is set in a different world because as far as I know we don’t have magical sacred arts on Earth. The whole ‘planet’ in this series is one of many planets looked over by an intergalactic god-like council that each have different powers and are super strong. Our protagonist, Lindon is a 15-year old living in a very safe place that the rest of the world has forgotten called ‘Sacred Valley’. The people of this valley are too afraid to venture out because the creatures outside the valley are very dangerous and even the strongest sacred artists of the valley can’t defeat them.

Sacred Arts are basically magic techniques that can be used by the clans in the Valley. Lindon unfortunately is determined as an unsouled which means that he won’t be allowed to learn the Sacred Arts of his clan. He is treated badly by not only the clan but also his family because the most important thing in the Valley is how powerful you are. There are 4 stages of power known – Copper, Iron, Jade and Gold. The strongest sacred artists in the valley are all Jades. Everybody thought that reaching Gold is impossible.

Remember the god-like people I talked about that look after the universe? Well one of them called The Pheonix saves Lindon one day and tells him that he has great potential but to get stronger he needs to leave Sacred Valley with a girl called Yerin who is a Gold. He finds this girl, makes a deal with her, gets out of the Valley and almost dies. Then he almost dies again, followed by being almost killed and then again and again and…well you get the idea. He gives his all to see the power that a couple months ago was unreachable for him. He goes on multiple adventures fighting for what he thinks is right, making many friends on the way and becoming more powerful than he ever imagined. He then returns to the valley to save it from a huge monster that wants to take a walk….ON IT!! The usual ‘I don’t trust this person who is trying to risk his life to save us’ thoughts come into the mind of the people of the Valley which makes it wayyyyyyyyyy harder for Lindon to save them. Read the book to see what happens….

So, what did I think about the book? To be honest it had its flaws, it became a little boring and overstretched somewhere by the 3rd volume. I had even thought of not reviewing it because of the prolonged over-detailing but I still wanted to give it a chance based on how awesome the first book was. Finally I hit gold, and I mean true literary gold. The books became too good. With multiple characters with their own stories, the author truly conveyed the emotions of each character perfectly. Not only was this a really awesome piece of fiction but it taught me tons of things that to be honest I would never have learnt from a self-help book. No matter how Lindon was treated by his own people he still respected them in his whole journey from a weak Unsouled to an overpowered Sage. His patience and intelligence truly speaks to the reader each time he gets out of near-death experiences just because of his presence of mind. Having idolized characters like Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, if someone asks me which fictional character would I like to be like – I’d definitely say Wee Shi Lindon.

That was it for the review, I think you should definitely read this series. It may dip in between and become tiring to continue it but I promise you, if you just push through that barrier then you will be glad that you did.

Important Announcement – I’m going to be coming up with a 3 part series containing 3 essential books you have to read if you are a teenager. This will be a very important post and I’d appreciate it if you would read it because it will boost your productivity through the sky!
