Why I got hooked on Gamelit-Fantasies…

Hey Guys! Welcome back to the “I answer questions which nobody asked” series. Untrue to its name, this post is actually an answer to a question that one of you guys asked me some days…weeks, months ago (it’s late because I was giving it some final edits and not because I started writing this whole post a couple hours before the posting time, I’d never do that ✌). Basically, I have always been reading fiction and maybe some productivity books (if I’m desperate and have nothing to read, it’s a dark place😢) The question was how did I suddenly shift to this whole new genre of GameLit Fantasies which I found 5 months ago? That’s what I’m gonna answer in this post. I am also going to tell you why most of you would probably hate this genre and end up sending me hate for burning you eyes by suggesting such books (too much??). Additionally I am going to suggest some good starter series in this genre. BTW if you are a gamer or a nerd, u will love this genre (its weird that the whole target audience is totally opposite…or maybe not becoz both of them just stay in the room all day with a dead social life…now I’m thinking about what my social life is like…now I’m feeling sad….OHHH MY FRIEND JUST DMed ME!!! YES! Lemme see what he wants…

Yep, I need better friends…

Depressing things aside, how did I make the jump from Percy Jackson to Earth-destroyed-enter-games-or-your-existence-is-erased books? Its a long story…Basically, I found this book on Kindle and thought that the cover image looked cool (it had a fireball, fireballs are universal signs of cool overpowered protagonists (or am I just judging books by their cover?). I bought the book, read it and fell in love with Gamelit Fantasies, the end. Well…not that long a story I guess.

“Judge books by their cover because if you don’t then cover’s don’t really have any use”

A wise man (me)

So…what’s so special about this genre? Its basically people entering games, or alternate dimensions following game mechanics or the world is actually a game…stuff like that. Why are game mechanics so interesting you ask? One thing that every fiction book has a lack of is precision. What do I mean by precision? Most books have a main character that randomly becomes strong or randomly becomes me (a level of weakness where you are not able to lift a sword…and yep, it’s a league of its own) which is very annoying for people who overthink or actually believe in data and the fact that umm…I dunno…A ME DOESN’T JUST BECOME HULK IN ONE DAY BECAUSE THEY FALL IN A MAGIC RIVER.

Game mechanics give us and the author to justify the characters power or luck. Simple stuff like how much speed or strength you have can fully change the whole perspective of the reader towards the character and the book in general. Basically, game mechanics give numbers to everything (which is awesome). For example a character having 24 speed just cannot outrun a person with 34 speed only because they have the power of friendship with them (what does that even mean? Ask pop culture!).

Now, most people think that ehh player levels, stats, skills all of these are pretty easy to understand, right? WRONG YOU NOOB! You enter the book and read stuff like Level 1 Warrior and Health – 50/50 and feel so at ease but then out of nowhere the author starts shooting made-up stuff like multipliers, skill combination, karmic luck and whatnot. All of this when put in a mixture blends your brain into a smoothie and your eyes tear from hating yourself for reading this book “for fun” just when you were done with your Math Homework. But it’s still not it, then you start getting into dungeons and towers and rank-ups and gear and OMG-SALKJDOfidjlosdfjld SJKADASD STUFF.

As I was saying before I triggered myself and almost broke my fingers hitting the keyboard (I can’t even break the keyboard with my fingers <sed lyf>) why is this genre so good? (didn’t see that coming, did ya?) Bam you get to see a whole new world with different cultures and weird people. Boom you feel actually included in whatever adventure the protagonist is going through. And as an added bonus – when your parents ask you what you are doing, you can studying math while being technically – not a liar. Still I feel bad for potentially scaring away a whole new audience from this genre just because I got carried away. I’ll tell you one thing to remedy this whole situation. The whole journey and adventures that these books take you through…the best. That’s it, THE BEST! I haven’t ever seen myself so involved into something that another person is doing in an imaginary world which exists in a book. Reading Rick Riordan books for 17 hours straight without breaks was awesome. But this genre is on a whole new level. People who like to overcomplicate things? Love maths? Play games? Watch progression? YOU HAVE TO READ THESE BOOKS!! They are simply amazing.

Now coming on to the part for which most of you came here for:

My Game lit Fantasies Suggestions for a Starter (List Edition):

BTW some of these series aren’t really completed, the author is still writing the next books so you gotta check if they are whenever you choose one. Also the bold titles of the books are links to their Amazon pages if you are interested in buying them…(ik I’m just sooo thoughtful…)

  • The Completionist Chronicles – A soldier who loses his legs and can’t use them ever again enters a game so that he can walk and live life in a magic world. The Catch – He can’t leave. PS: Elon Musk is the President of USA in this book 😂
  • Reborn: Apocalypse – Humanity is dead. The reason they died is a series of mistakes. The main character is given a chance to go back in time and not let those mistakes happen, that’s the only way human can survive.(Talk about having regrets, huh?)
  • The Underworld Collection – A few gamers are sent into a a lost world of the Underworld where they have to level up to survive, else they die…(sucks for them, doesn’t it?)
  • Darkthorn Academy – A school where you gotta complete adventures to pay the fees. Go to deadly lands to get money. Its basically Harry Potter + Lord of the Rings. I feel the setting is more Lord of the Rings and the plot is kind of like Harry Potter. Not at all similar though. It’s a very fast paced not to mention crazy adventure.

So that was it for this post guys, I hope you guys read this genre and tell me how you found the books. Comment down below what you thought of this post, give it a rating, you can also subscribe to my blog at the bottom of the page and you will get notified via email each time I post.

PS – My Summer Vacations are starting and I have 0 confidence in myself that I will actually post each week, so I give you guys full permission to spam “Loser” or smth in the comments and I won’t delete it if I don’t upload every week for the month of May.
